At my Bon Voyage party, guests were asked to share a travel tip, quote, suggestions, joke, or anything else they could think of to contribute to my trip. Such a fun way to get all my friends to become a part of this adventure. Here are some of my favorites - feel free to add your own to the comments section!

I have to say, I'm pretty lucky. I have some awesome friends who are supportive of my upcoming travels and wanted to send me off in style. Friday night my brother and my good friend teamed up to organize a simple - yet thoughtful - sendoff. Here are some of the highlights which I recommend for all future going away parties! ![]() ACTIVITY: This is probably the best idea for any bon voyage party. Guests were asked to bring a note with a travel tip, piece of advice, funny quote, etc. There were also pieces of paper and pens on our reserved tables so guests could have fun with the task and offer more tips and advice throughout the evening. By the end of the night, I had a bag full of notes including everything from serious recommendations or where to go and things to do to funny tips and jokes. ![]() VENUE: Must be easy to get to, have the right 'upscale casual' vibe that I like, and preferably a theme or name that adds to the fun. My party was at The Globe bar in Gramercy - how perfect? ![]() DRINKS: Having been a bartender in a previous life, I know how important big parties are for bars. And that often means the party has some leverage in organizing specials - you just have to ask! We had a bunch of drink specials available exclusively to our group which everyone certainly appreciated and took advantage of! ![]() PHOTOS: It may sound a bit silly to include this, but sometimes you have to be reminded to take out the camera (or iPhone). I designated one of my girlfriends as the evening's photographer to ensure I had some good shots from the night to look at when I'm on my trip and maybe feeling a bit lonely or missing my friends. |
