Seafood, cheese, wine, beer, and pastries. How could you go wrong? After my time in Santiago de Compostela and Vigo, I think I've barely scratched the surface of Galician cuisine, but here are some highlights. Galicia is the region of Spain said to have the best fish and seafood in the country. They have the standard fresh whole fish, but also a vast variety of shellfish. In fact, walking by restaurants I saw some sea creatures I had never come across in my life. In case seafood isn’t your thing, don’t worry. You can find ‘regular’ food in just about any café from salads to sandwiches to meat and chicken. But there are a couple of other non-fish specialties this region is known for that are definitely worth trying! And then, there’s the booze! Galicians are very proud of their local brew, Estrella Galicia, which is the only chose of beer in many establishments. Wine is made throughout Galicia, famously with the Albariño grape, and you can find plenty of local options for both red and white. And finally, there are some special types of liquors in Galicia, such as Orujo brandy and Liquor Café, a Bailey’s-like coffee liquor.
